It was amazing that we pulled everything together by June 2nd, but we did. The house on Burlington is rented. All the furniture was sold, donated or passed on to friends and family. I wrapped up my job at DEA on June 1st. We rented a 4x8 uHaul trailer and installed a hitch on the Subaru. By noon on Saturday we were on the road.
The first stop was just outside of Walla Walla in the foothills of the Blue Mountains to celebrate Nat's birthday. My parents drove over the hill from Summerville and joined us. It was a large local crowd. Sky and Peter where there. Julie and Arie were missed. A nearly year old Fern as monopolized by grandpa. Ember and Naomi have grown up so fast. I was nearly their age now when they were born.
We made an early exit from what was shaping up to be a typical natty gringo slumber party. We made our way over Tollgate in the dark for the first real test of the Suby with a few thousand lbs in tow.
Sunday we relaxed at home in the trees, enjoying dad's famous pancakes and mom's delicious enchiladas. Grandma came out for the day. Wherever I go and whatever I do, it is always refreshing to come back home to Summerville.
